TEACHER unions say the recruitment of 2,009 teachers out of 27,439 candidates who applied under this year’s recruitment exercise will help bridge the deficit of 55,000 and improve academic performance in schools.
Zambia National Teachers Union (ZNUT) secretary general Newman Bubala said in an interview yesterday that the move should be commended because it will help improve the performance of pupils.
“The recent recruitment just goes to show that the process was fair. I would urge those that have been employed to prove themselves. We need to see change in schools,” he said.
Mr Bubala said the exercise is also an encouragement to other teachers who are not yet in the system
