Mother Of Chipata Boy Found With 44 Needles Will Be  Charged With Criminal Negligence

The mother of the three-year old boy who has 44 needles and wires imbedded in his body will be charged with criminal child negligence. Eastern Province Commissioner of Police Lackson Sakala said a close relative could have imbedded the needles and wires in the boy’s body.

Mr Sakala said the motive of pricking the boy with many needles and sharp wires was to kill the child, and whoever is behind this act will face the wrath of the law. He said this when he briefed journalists yesterday. Mr Sakala said there is no way the mother of the boy could not know that her child had been pricked with the needles. “This is a serious matter because we find it strange that a boy can have so many needles and sharp wires in his body without the mother knowing. Mr Sakala assured the public that once caught, the culprits will be prosecuted. He said police will also engage forensic experts to help determine how long the needles have been imbedded in the boy’s body. Mr Sakala said a file has been opened and some police officers have been assigned to work with Chipata Central Hospital authorities until the matter is concluded.

He said the matter is under investigations because it is clear the motive behind pricking the boy was to kill him. Mr Sakala wondered how the child has survived with many strange needles and wires embedded in his body. He is at Chipata Central Hospital.He said police are closely monitoring the situation and are working with hospital authorities to account for the needles and wires being removed.
Doctors have since extracted 25 needles and wires from the boy’s body.

Rosemary, who is a Grade 3 dropout, and in a polygamous marriage, said she does not understand how the needles were imbedded into her son’s body. The child had been complaining of stomach-aches since last year and was taken to Chipata Central Correctional Clinic for a check-up.
He was later referred to Chipata Central Hospital where it was discovered that he had severe malnutrition and 44 needles and wires in his body.
