According to eye witness, the girl was taken away by a crocodile whilst taking photos in the water. Authorities were quickly notified about the development. Police officers and officers from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife undertook a search and spotted the crocodile near Yachi Guest house, located on the shores of the lake.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed the development in a Statement and said the spotted crocodile was shot at on the head by an alert officer from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife.

Katongo said the officers retrieved the body of the victim and was found with a crushed left leg and deep cuts on the right thigh. The girl was identified as 18-year-old Precious Kaunda.
