Police have started procedures for administrative action against a police officer from mobile unit on the Copperbelt who was seen pleading for leniency from agitated members of the public for failure to issue a receipt after collecting money from a motorist at Kagem police post.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said in a statement yesterday that the discreditable conduct by the officer in question is uncalled for as it has potential to put the institution in disrepute.

“Our appeal is for the complainants in the video to make a formal report at any nearest police station and give an account on what transpired,’’ Ms Katongo said. The police have since urged members of the public to always demand for a government receipt for any money paid to a police officer in fees or fine. “This will greatly help in the fight against corruption,’’ Ms Katongo said.
