Fast Internet Project Set In Motion

Premier Telecoms Zambia Limited (PTZ) has started installing its Fibre to the Home (FTTH) service to enable businesses and residents to access fast and cheap broadband internet services. The US$60 million countrywide project is being piloted in Lusaka, with a target to reach 3,000 premises in the suburbs of the capital city by the end of next year.

Administration manager Evaristo Kusensela said the FTTH service will work with internet service providers who will link the service to its clients.
He explained that PTZ will provide internet services to service providers like MTN, ZAMTEL and iConnect.
“Through PTZ, a service provider can connect their client because currently, service providers have challenges in reaching out to some areas due to poor infrastructure, but we are going to put infrastructure that will enable easy connectivity,” Mr Kusensela said, shortly after installing fibre poles in Longacres area yesterday.

He added that PTZ will first target Chalala, Woodlands and Kabulonga areas. “Fibre to the Home is a new internet solution, our service has open access, all one needs to do is select their favourite internet service provider and the package that suits their needs and pocket, and they will be connected,” he said.

He said after the pilot project, the company will move to other provinces to enable connectivity. “After meeting our target in Lusaka, we shall extend our services to other provinces,” he said. Mr Kusensela described the launch as a milestone in the expansion of Zambia’s telecommunication infrastructure.

And PTZ founder and chairperson Salati Ketrine said in a separate interview that PTZ lays a foundation for future smart homes and cities as it aims to link 100,000 homes countrywide. “As the demand for super-fast broadband increases, PTZ plans to extend and build to the rest of Lusaka and surrounding suburbs. PTZ will also connect learning institutions
