8 people have applied to be adopted on the Patriotic Front (PF) ticket for the Sesheke Parliamentary by-election. The by-election is scheduled to take place on February 10, 2019. Meanwhile, United Party for National Development (UPND) youths in Mongu have commended the party leadership for adopting a youthful candidate for the forthcoming by-election.
Western Province PF secretary Mulenga Tembo, who confirmed the development, named the candidates as Dean Masule, Mukutulu Sinyani, Godwin Nyuwa and Sililo Namawa. Others are Victor Siyauya, Charles Mandandi, Shaft Mukubesa and Simasiku Simwendo.
Mr Mulenga said the eight candidates were interviewed on Wednesday by the constituency committee and are today scheduled to undergo district interviews.
“After the district interviews, the provincial committee will equally interview them in Sesheke after which shortlisted names will be submitted to the central committee for final adoption,” Mr Tembo said. And Mr Tembo is optimistic that the ruling PF will carry the day in Sesheke. “I am hopeful that we will carry the day. We are putting in place strategies that will make us win,’’ he said.
On the UPND candidate, Mongu district youth chairperson John Chinga said in an interview yesterday that the party in the area is happy with the choice of the candidate, and has pledged to rally behind him. Mr Chinga said Romeo Kangombo will emerge victorious because he has a proven track record and also has a passion for the youth and the people of Sesheke.
“Mr Kangombe is the right candidate for this by-election and, with him, we shall retain the seat,’’ Mr Chinga said. The Sesheke seat fell vacant after the death of UPND MP
