A 27-YEAR-old teacher of Wiya Primary School in Mafinga has been arrested by police for allegedly attempting to rape a fellow teacher.

Muchinga Province Commissioner of Police Joel Njase who confirmed the incident named the suspect as 2 Raphael Mulenga.

Mr Njase said the incident happened on January 1, 2019 around 21:30 hours in the teacher’s compound.

‘‘The attempted rape was reported to us by the victim who is also a teacher at the same school,” said Mr Njase.

Mulenga is alleged to have attempted to rape the woman while in a drunken state as he made several attempts to break the bedroom window after the victim refused to open for him.

Mr Njase said the victim together with the girl she keeps decided to come out of the house and ran away from him.

He said however that Mulenga gave chase and managed to catch up with the female teacher and wrestled with her in an attempt to have carnal knowledge of her by force.

Mr Njase said the victim was rescued by the neighbours after shouting for help and that she sustained bruises onher knees, right arm and general body pains.

He said a medical report form has since been issued to her to facilitate medical examination and treatment.

Mr Njase said the suspect was in police custody and will appear in court soon.
