United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia(UPPZ) leader Charles Chanda has come to the rescue of the old Mazabuka couple who were duped into buying land that was sold to another person and lost everything during the court process.
In a heart breaking story, Benson Banda of Changa -Changa Compound in Mazabuka and a retiree of Zambia Sugar, bought a piece of land from Loveness Hamsule without knowledge that the same land was sold to another buyer.
“My husband was an employee of Zambia sugar until he was retired due to old age in 2015. We then thought of finding a plot to buy and build to settle as a family . A woman by the name of Loveness Hamusale of Mazabuka informed me that she had a plot to sell , unfortunately this was the birth of the problems we are facing,” the teething Mrs Banda said.
She explained that Ms Hamusule indicated that a plot sized at 20 by 20 was selling at K 69,000=00 and a down payment of K50,000=00 was paid, leaving a balance of K19,000=00.
Mrs Banda said at this point, there was no exchange of documentation between her husband and the seller but that an agreement was signed .

Mrs Banda explained that during the process of liquidating the said balance, they decided to begin a few constructions on the plot which then had a structure of a two room block built. “…Surprisingly enough, another person emerged and confronted my family, accusing us of encroaching the premise. Efforts to settle the dispute was not successful at the time because Loveness was not available to resolve the matter,” she said.
The matter in which the land seller was claiming the balance of K19 000 went to the Mazabuka Magistrate court were Mr Banda lost and was ordered to pay Loveness K2 000 in installments.
But in his usual generosity, Mr Chanda has moved in to help the troubled family.

“I have taken keen interest in the case that was reported on social media concerning Mr Banda of Changa-Changa in Mazabuka. I have contacted Mrs Banda and I have assured her that that we will be sorting out her problem. She has received another summon from the person who sold her the land and the case is coming up on 18th of January 2019. I have informed her that once she finishes up with the case on the 18th and once she contacts the District Commissioner, she should get in touch with me so that we can resolve the problem once and for all,” he said.
Mr Chanda complained that corruption has been tolerated to reign in the judiciary.
“This is a Zambia that I don’t like where we have corruption from the roots to the leaves. We need a new Zambia where citizens should sing, stand and sing of Zambia, proud and free otherwise it is that the public should know, it has caught my attention and I have come to give a lasting solution,” Mr Chanda said
