MTSRIP: Photos Of Catholic Sister And Deacon Who Died In Road Mishap

A catholic deacon and a sister  died on the spot in a road traffic accident on the Solwezi-Zambezi road in North-Western Province. North-Western Province Commissioner of Police Hudson Namachila in a statement yesterday said the accident happened on Tuesday at 18:30 hours in Nyasonso area in Mufumbwe district.

Mr Namachila identified the deceased as Anthony Chomba, 34, a deacon at St Kalemba Mission in Manyinga, district and Albertina Mbombola, 30, a sister at St Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Kabompo district. Mr Namachila said the accident happened after the driver of a Fuso Fighter light truck registration number BAD 3563, identified as Knox Ndumba, 30, of Kayambila village in Kabompo lost control of the motor vehicle after a tyre burst due to excessive speeding, and overturned twice.

“Involved was Knox Ndumba, 30, of Kayambila village in Kabompo district, also a driver at St Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Kabompo who, while driving a Mitsubishi Fuso Registration number BAD 3563 at a high speed, had a tyre burst and lost control of the motor vehicle which overturned twice,” he said.

He said due to the impact of the accident, the victims sustained head injuries and died on the spot. “Due to the impact, two occupants of the motor vehicle, namely Anthony Chomba, 34, a deacon at St Kalemba Mission in Manyinga district sustained head injuries and died on the spot, while Albertina Mbombola, 30, a sister at Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Kabompo district sustained multiple cuts on the head and also died on the spot,” Mr Namachila said.
He said the bodies are at Mufumbwe District Hospital. The driver has been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving.
