A 33-year-old woman of Makeni has dragged her husband to court for divorce because he has been using condoms with her while he does not do so with the second wife. When she testified before magistrate Lewis Mumba, Stella Kasamu told the court that her husband, Given Mweemba, has been sleeping with her using condoms since 2014 against her desire.

Kasamu told the court that she is frustrated because her husband has children with the second wife and not her. “My husband has been torturing me since 2014 when he married a second wife. He uses condoms with me while he enjoys not using condoms with the second wife,” she said.
Kasamu told the court that she prefers not to use condoms because they cause cervical cancer.

She told the court that she is jealous and does not like the idea of sharing her husband. “It’s either my husband divorces the second wife or I go. I cannot be using condoms while the other woman does not use them,” Kasamu said. She also told the court that her husband’s family has also shifted their attention to his second wife.

And Mweemba told the court that he has been using condoms with Kasamu because he does not want to infect her with the virus. He told the court that Kasamu told him that she is scared that he might infect her after he married the second wife. “I use condoms with my wife because I don’t want her to accuse me of infecting with the virus,” Mweemba said.

He told the court that he loves his two wives and does not want to divorce any one of them. In passing judgement, the court granted divorce on grounds that Mweemba did not consult Kasamu before he got the second wife.
