Our Government Laws Are So Outdated That An Accident Attracts A Flexible Punishment Towards An Offender….

Sometimes when one listens to the Zambian Judiciary and their judgments , you will remain wondering if really the human being is put at the center of every Law, Political, Social, legal and economical. I’m prompted to say so after reading the article from the media where the Ndola high court has fined a Police officer K9000 for causing 4 deaths and injuring 5 others… Sergeant Lyson Chibenga is an unlicensed driver, driving a car without the fitness certificate and insurance and this offender is asked to pay K9000 and also to compensate the injured victims.

The question one may ask is that, do we really value life in our society? Does our government revisit these laws so as to update them ? A good legal system must move with time. Society is dynamic and so are the laws governing peoples’ conduct. Some fines, in penalty units, date back to the first republic. I therefore , wish to invite everyone to uplift the human rights and dignity.

I also invite the Church to constantly preach about the importance of human rights and dignity because the church and state serve the same masses of the population in different forms . The Christian values are totally different from the values of the society today and its ethics which do not have the value of Human being, its our duty to uphold Human dignity as good Christians . From time immemorial, States have not respected the life of human beings, that’s why today most countries have legalized abortion and euthanasia to take away life and this seems to be a normal thing. Life is Precious and sacred at all levels for it is God’s beautiful and greatest gift to humanity.

Our Government laws are so outdated that an accident attracts a flexible punishment towards an offender. The voice of the voiceless should be uplifted by the church to create the new face of the earth. We need to work together to help people understand the social teachings of the church more than ever before in today’s world.
