A HUSBAND of Bulangililo township in Kitwe has testified before the local court how his wife inspects his underwear every time he knocks off from work. Henry Mwape told the Bulangililo local court that his wife is a jealous woman who always looks out for stains on his underwear.

Henry was testifying in a case in which his wife, Winfridah Mwape, sued him for divorce on grounds that he has no respect for her. The two got married in 1997 and have five children together. Henry alleged his wife’s biggest problem is that of inspecting his movements. He told the court that he does a number of part-time jobs to earn a living and he gets back home late but his wife mistrusts him and thinks he has extra-marital affairs.

Henry said his wife’s suspicious behaviour prompts her to check his underwear and that she always confronts him whenever she finds it soiled. “I love my wife despite her behaviour of inspecting my underwear and I would love the court to reconcile us because we have to keep the family together,” he said.

Henry also complained to the court that his wife is fond of calling him short and that he always forces her to perform conjugal rights because she alleges that she no longer has sexual appetite for him. But Winfridah accused her husband of being violent against her and that he once used a pounding stick to hit her in the stomach.

She also told the court that her husband threatens to kill her and that he also accuses her of having an affair with their first child. Winfridah pleaded with the court to grant them divorce to prevent him from ever beating her again. And Bulangililo senior local court magistrate Kambole Nyoni adjourned the case.
