People of Sichama and Kanyemba in Mwensr District if Luapula Province can enjoy clean drinking water following the drilling of six boreholes at a cost of K9million by the government through the Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection.
District commissioner Geofrey Chipampata said the sinking of the boreholes is part of the piped water projects in the two villages.
The question that linger are, How can 6 boreholes cost a whooping K9million? Are we seriously short of leaders as a country? And surprising, people will be quiet about all this broad day syphoning of the funds. Shame.
Private citizens have hired the same companies dotted around the country to sink boreholes for them and the cost has been between K11,000 and K30,000. Probably the most expensive being around K50,000 for a 50 meter borehole with liners. Which companies does the government get quotations from and what special features do their boreholes have?
