AMOS Chanda’s arrogance is an indictment on President Edgar Lungu that he has failed to govern, says All Nations Church Overseer Bishop Timothy Chisala.
Last week President Lungu’s press aide, Chanda, said State House would be inviting the International Criminal Court and that the Rome statute prescribes parties to the ICC therefore, “so those lunatics (Opposition Alliance) have no jurisdiction whatsoever to invite the ICC”.
Responding to the Alliance of the Opposition political parties resolve to report President Lungu, his home affairs minister Stephen Kampyongo, PF secretary general Davies Mwila, himself and Kaizer Zulu, among others, to the ICC for crimes against humanity, Chanda said there was no truth in the “rubbish” they uttered.
He accused the alliance of playing games saying the government would instead invite the International Criminal Court, Human Rights Commission and Amnesty International.
But Bishop Chisala said the language of Chanda was not befitting to be coming from the President.
“I am very sure that before Amos Chanda communicates to the public, he has a brief with the President. So whatever Amos Chanda says, its coming from the President. That is the reasoning of the President. Because if the President does not use such language, Amos can be instantly fire, but it is clear that, that is the language that the President has blessed,” he said.
“Reflection is key in good governance. Those with authority should never think they are in control of everything. Everything that goes up, will surely come down. This our young man will not forever be the President’s spokesperson. Even the President will not be there forever. These are hired jobs by the Zambian people. So the Zambian people he is insulting can fire him at any time. We should learn from the past.”
Bishop Chisala said it was very unfortunate that President Lungu did not seem to censor Chanda on his language.
He said the downfall of arrogant leaders was shameful.
“His downfall will be very shameful. We don’t wish him bad, but we are concerned with his bad language. I remember very well, there was a recording between him (Amos Chanda) and Honourable (Chishimba) Kambwili. The boy can insult. Very unfortunate,” Bishop Chisala recalled.
He said authority should not be taken like a joke.
“Those in authority should not take it like a joke. Respect is key in leadership, no matter how, the others talk about the government, show leadership. You can’t be insulting all the time in response. The other sad part is that Amos is a very young man and the people he is calling lunatic, wolf, rats are not his age-mate. These are elderly people. We are ashamed as society,” said Bishop Chisala.
