  • We, the consortium of political parties and non-governmental organizations, have noted with great concern how the UPND-led alliance are in a panic mode of losing the 2021 elections to President Edgar Lungu.

It’s unfortunate that they are so desperate for power such that they are ready to go to any length to achieve their objective, including the use of political violence during the run-up to the 2021 elections.

We are also aware that the said alliance have devised a strategy in which they intend to replicate the ‘Sesheke formula’ of political violence, manipulation and peddling falsehoods in attempt to erode the people’s confidence in the PF Government.

We were shocked to learn that the PF supporters were struck down by lightning and bitten by bees in unexplained campaign trail drama recently in Sesheke – one person was left dead and several others injured, including a baby.

Does the strange and unexplained happenings in Sesheke mean that there is a new political strategy and formula to win elections?

We say so because as a Christian nation, the incident was the first of its kind in the political history of our country.

We find it extremely strange that the UPND-led alliance wants to dialogue with the Republican President whom they are falsely accusing of plotting to assassinate their leader, Hakainde Hichilema.

More so, we have noted that the UPND-led alliance wants also to bulldoze the constitution-making process and dictate the agenda as they did with UPND-Church Mother bodies led stalled national dialogue.

In view of the foregoing, we are of the view that the UPND-led alliance does not mean well for the country as they are only interested in wrestling power from President Lungu.

However, the people of Zambia gave President Lungu a five-year mandate to govern, which expires in 2021, and we are confident that the Zambian people will again renew their social contract with President Lungu and the PF in 2021 given the robust infrastructure developmental projects rolled out throughout all parts of the country tailored not to leave anyone behind and improve the welfare of the people.
