A 13-year-old girl has been strangled to death in Chalala township after being defiled by unknown people. Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in a statement yesterday that Philiness Sitenge’s body was picked by police on Tuesday around 13:00 hours.

He said Philiness was sent to buy relish (food for home) in neighbouring Kabwata Site and Service on Monday around 17:00 hours but she never returned home.

The girl was living with her uncle, Gift Sitenge, at house number 34610 off Ring Road. Meanwhile, a motor vehicle belonging to National Democratic Congress consultant Chishimba Kambwili yesterday ran over a pedestrian in Katuba.

Police spokesperson Esther Katongo said the victim, Javis Mulenga, aged between 30 and 35, of Kabangwe, sustained serious injuries.
“The accident happened today [yesterday] at 14:00 hours when the driver (Henry Mulenga) was overtaking another vehicle,” she said
