Police in Lusaka have arrested UPND Lusaka Province Chairman Obvious Mwaliteta for allegedly being found with offensive weapons in his car in Kafue.
This is amidst ongoing by-election in the district for a new council chairperson. The race is between the PF’s Retired Brigadier General Simakoloyi Moono and UPND’s Beatrice Kayuni.
In an interview with Diamond News, Lusaka Province Police Commissioner Nelson Phiri says Mr. Mwaliteta has been detained at Lusaka Central Police Station where he is being interrogated. He says police wants to know why Mr. Mwaliteta had pangas in his car.
The police commissioner has further revealed that Mr. Mwaliteta was with some UPND youths at the scene who however managed to escape
