The Choma Magistrates Court has heard on how a 21 year old mother deserted her Eight months old son infected with Tuberculosis in Hospital for three weeks whilst she was drinking and romancing with her boyfriend at home.
Byta FM Court Stories Specialist reports that this is in a matter where Jane Mwanza of Mwapona Compound in Choma stands accused of neglecting her child at Choma General Hospital when she had the ability to provide care and food in her capacity as mother.
When the matter came up for trial before Court, the accused person’s mother, Elizabeth Kunda testified that she travelled to the Hospital from Maamba after she received a call from Musonda Amanda, a Laboratory Technician that the child was critically ill.
The court heard that the accused disappeared for three weeks and her young sister is the one who reported that the accused was home romancing and drinking alcohol with her boyfriend.
Musonda Amanda, the Laboratory Technician who has been providing for the Child from the first day after noticing that the boy was at a point of death, told the Court that she insisted that the child undergoes an x-ray after which he was found with Tuberculosis.
She said after trying to know the cause of the infection, she was told that the child’s mother and boyfriend smoke in the presence of the child and that she gives the baby alcohol (Junta) in order to put her to sleep.
The Court has since adjourned the matter to 29th March, 2019 for continuation of trial while the accused person continues to remain in
