LECTURERS and other workers at CBU have given management up to tomorrow to pay them their March salaries or they will stage another work stoppage.
On March 11, workers at CBU staged a work stoppage over the delayed payment of their February salaries and only resumed work last week.
Copperbelt University Academics Union (CBUAU) president Derrick Ntalasha said the workers would go on another work stoppage if management at the institution does not pay them their March salaries before Wednesday.
In an interview in Kitwe, Dr Ntalasha said workers had expected to be paid their salaries on Friday last week, but were surprised that there was a delay yet again.
He said the work stoppage over delayed payment of salaries should not be perceived as political because it was only a means of expressing displeasure.
“We only received our February salaries on March 25 and so we expect to be paid our March salaries so that management or government is up-to-date. So we are giving the government and management up to tomorrow to pay us our March salaries.
“Our work stoppages are not politically motivated. So the Minister of Higher Education Professor Nkandu Luo should not think on those lines that we are doing politics. No. She should just pay our salaries and then, there will be no problem,’’ Dr Ntalasha said.
