Minister in the Office of the Vice-President Sylvia Chalikosa has directed AVIC International to quickly erect a temporary bridge at Kapompi Bridge which connects Nkana East and Chipata compound.

Kapompi Bridge which connects the two townships was recently washed away after a heavy downpour for the second time after being constructed.

Speaking after she inspected the collapsed bridge, Ms Chalikosa told journalists that there was need to put up a temporary bridge because the manner in which pupils were crossing the stream on Nkana water pipes is dangerous.

Ms Chalikosa said government would not want any loss of life hence the need to quickly erect a temporary bridge before a permanent one can be put up.

The Minister has tasked Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU- National coordinator Chanda Kabwe to work with the office of the Kitwe Mayor so that a temporary bridge can quickly be erected.
