Lungu: No One Will Die Of Hunger In Southern Province

NO-ONE one will die of hunger in Southern Province because Government will ensure that food is available in the region, President Edgar Lungu has assured.

President Lungu said Government would not let anyone die of hunger in the province because it would do whatever it takes to provide food to all parts of the region through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit.

The President was addressing Patriotic Front members at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone shortly before he left for Ndola.

Mr Lungu said no-one was going to be left behind because the catastrophe was beyond the people of Southern Province.

“The climate change effects have been so adverse in some parts of the country, that we have to be on our toes awake and alert to ensure that all those in needy places are taken care of,” Mr Lungu said.

Mr Lungu who was in Livingstone to officiate at the 21st Commonwealth Law Conference was accompanied by First Lady Esther Lungu, Presidential Affairs Minister Freedom Sikazwe and PF national chairperson Samuel Mukupa.

He was welcomed by Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale, Justice Minister Given Lubinda and members of the PF central committee.

Mr Lungu urged PF members to reflect, dialogue and love owwne another.

He said PF members needed to also interact with other stakeholders with divergent views and not to kill one another because Zambia was for every citizen.

President Lungu said the PF was more than ready to win votes in Southern Province in 2021 and urged the provincial, district and ward leadership to work very hard because the ruling party was not going to win if they ignored the province.

He said his heart and that of the ruling party was very strong in Southern Province.

Earlier, Dr Hamukale said the province had challenges of water and food supply.

He however thanked President Lungu for intervening in the valley districts of the province through the provision of relief food.

Meanwhile, Ms Lungu is in Livingstone to launch the Zambia Ending AIDS and the Free to Shine campaigns tomorrow.

She will also be joined by four other First Ladies from Mozambique, Malawi, Botswana and Zimbabwe who are expected in Livingstone today.
