One Of The Swapped Babies At Ndola Teaching Hospital Dies

ONE of the babies who were recently swapped at Ndola Teaching Hospital has died. Hospital public relations officer Sheona Kamwendo said in an interview yesterday that the infant died at Arthur Davison Children’s Hospital on Saturday.

“Yes, one of the babies died on Saturday morning after an illness,” she said. Ms Kamwendo said the dead baby is the one who was born prematurely.
On Friday, Ndola Teaching Hospital transferred the baby to Arthur Davison Children’s Hospital for specialised treatment. About a week ago, two mothers who share the same name of Natasha Mulenga gave birth on the same day but at different times.

One of the babies weighed 3.3 kilogrammes while the other weighed two kilogrammes. However, the nurses on duty allegedly swapped the babies.
And Ministry of Health spokesperson Abel Kabalo said on Friday that DNA samples on the babies and their parents were sent to the laboratory for analysis.
