A Lusaka woman who told her husband she has lost appetite for sex with him has been taken to court for divorce.
Kalumba Zulu,48, told the court that his wife Beatrice Lungu, 37, has been telling him for the past two years that she cannot have sex with him because she has lost appetite for him.
Zulu, of Kuku Township, who has been with his wife for the last 21 years, pleaded with the Chawama local court to now end his marriage.
The couple got married in 1997 and has five children together. “I cannot continue living with a woman who does not love me. My wife has on several occasions told me that has lost interest in me,” Zulu said. He told the court that problems in his marriage started in 2015 when his wife started drinking beer.
He said his wife spends most of her time drinking beer and in most cases comes home after 21:00 hours. He told the court that his wife has been counselled by the couple’s families and the church but she has not changed. “At one point the church even stripped her of her uniform because of her drinking habit. I am tired of her behaviour and I cannot stay with her,” she said.
In her defence, Lungu told the court that Zulu wants to have sex with her every day. “My husband goes about embarrassing me that I deny him conjugal rights whenever I tell him that I am tired. He has on several occasions reported me to my family and the church,” she said.
Lungu told the court that Zulu beats her severely whenever the pair has a minor understanding.
She also said her husband has chased her from the couple’s matrimonial bedroom for unknown reasons. Lungu told the court that she has no objection to her husband’s proposal because she does not want to lose her life in the name of marriage.
Magistrate Lewis Mumba sitting with magistrate Nancy Ngoma granted the divorce and ordered that the pair sells their house and share the proceeds.
