A Police Office at Namwala Police Station in southern province has allegedly committed suicide.

Police have since opened an inquiry file for Suicide in which Constable Elzier Lubinda aged 34 years of Namwala Police shot himself with an AK 47 rifle and died on the spot.

The officer who was on duty shot himself through the chin and the bullet came out through the right eye.

The incident occurred today 26th April, around 01 30hrs at Namwala Police inquiries office.

The officer was found lying down facing upwards with the firearm on his chest.

A projectile was also recovered at the scene.

The body has since been deposited at Namwala District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Deputy Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has confirmed the development.
