Vice President Inonge Wina has been evacuated to South Africa this morning for treatment following a heart problem.

Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya has announced the development at a press briefing in Lusaka explaining that there was a ‘health encounter’ involving the vice president.

According to Dr. Chilufya, Ms. Wina was treated last night at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) by a multi-disciplinary team for a heart condition.

He adds that President Edgar Lungu visited Ms. Wina at UTH and commended the medical team at the facility for competently attending to the vice president.

President Lungu has since facilitated her evacuation to South Africa for thorough check up. Ms. Wina, aged 78, has been seen off by Dr. Chilufya and other senior government officials.

The minister of health has promised to keep the nation updated on the vice president’s progress saying she was in high spirits at the time of her departure for South Africa.
