Kitwe Entities, Institutions & Workers Shun Labour Day, Frustrate Local Leaders

Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu says he will be writing to entities and institutions in the district to establish as to reasons why workers are being deliberately stopped from taking part in celebrations like that of the labour day.
Mr. Mpundu said this after Kitwe District 2019 Labour Day organizing committee chairman fewdays Bwalya disclosed that this year’ Labour Day celebrations had seen a significant drop in the number of companies and workers taking part.
He said it was worrying to note that the numbers of companies participating in Labour Day continues to drop year in year out for unknown reasons.
And Mr. Mpundu said those who shunning celebrations like that of Labour Day should not stay at home but rather put a notice and report for work.
This year’s Labour Day was themed: enhancing productivity and alleviating poverty through the decent work agenda
