ANY sponsored cartel in the Patriotic Front will hit a snag because President Edgar Lungu has massive support across the country, the party’s national, chairperson Mr Samuel Mukupa has said.

Mr Mukupa told the Daily Nation yesterday the cartel would not last because Mr Lungu was firmly anchored in the party.

He said PF members were happy with President Lungu’s leadership. Mr Mukupa said President Lungu was not only popular at national level but also enjoyed “astonishing support” even at the grassroots.

“Tell those in the cartel that they are daydreaming for the regime change as President Lungu is anchored firmly in the party because we are very happy with him.

“And that speaks to as far as branches, wards, constituencies and districts. The kind of management style that President Lungu has introduced in serious consultations with the central committee speaks volumes that it is second to none,” Mr Mukupa said.

“If you know the sign of struggle, power struggle it entails that people want to be closer to Lungu. Like in all elections, people want to stand because they want to be close to President Lungu.”

He said President Lungu had loyal members of Parliament and central committee who could not support such machinations.

Mr Mukupa said only a few disgruntled individuals who do not even have any position in any structure were instigating regime change in the party.

Yesterday the Daily Nation quoted Chief Chikwanda of Mpika, as warning that the cartel fighting to oust President Lungu was real and should be confronted before it caused confusion.
