Zambian DNA commends the Police for arresting those who allegedly attacked Power FM in Kabwe and Radio Maria in Chipata respectively.
Indeed, Zambia has no place and space for thuggery and political violence as it is a democracy that guarantees both the freedom of expression and the media.
However, the Police should equally arrest politicians and the ‘so-called’ Human rights activists who habitually insult and use vulgar language when referring to the Republican President Edgar Chagwa Lungu and other Government officials on live Radio and TV programmmes as well as social media platforms.
We have noted that the isolated attacks on the said media outlets are a reaction to the uncouth and vulgar language used by those featured on live Radio and TV programmes.
It is worth noting that as long as media outlets continue featuring foul mouthed politicians and disgruntled elements who use the fora to attack and insult other citizens who cannot defend themselves, the attacks on these media outlets will continue.
We advise politicians and other newsmakers to tone down and refrain from using provocative and inflammatory language when featuring on Radio and TV programmes to avoid being attacked.
We are now calling upon the Police High Command to also arrest those who are breaking the law by defaming and insulting the Head of State on Radio and TV as well as social media.
