HE WON the lottery and decided one woman was not enough.
This was heard in the Matero Local Court, where Annie Zulu had sued her husband, Rodgers Zulu, 32, for reconciliation.
Annie told the court that after her husband won K36,000 in sports betting, he moved in with another woman and neglected his family.
The couple got married in 2014 and has one child together.
“My husband only gave me K2,000 from the K36,000 he won from sports betting and even stopped sleeping at home. He could only come once in a while after which he went back,” Annie said.
She said her husband even stopped eating at home and would always come with a pack of chips and a drink every time he visited.
Annie told the court that problems in her marriage started earlier this year when the couple’s child broke his leg after being run over by a car.
“I was at the hospital for over a month nursing my child and my husband only visited three times. While I was at hospital, he started bringing another woman to the house,” she said.
In her submissions, Annie told the court that she still loved her husband and wanted the couple to reconcile.
But Rodgers, in his defence, told the court that he deserted his wife because she stopped putting warm water for him to bath.
“She became disrespectful and stopped washing my clothes, putting water for me to bath also became a problem. Yes, I have a child with another woman,” he said.
Rodgers also told the court that he lent K10,000 to his friend, who has since disappeared.
He said his wife should go back to his home if she wanted to.
In passing judgement, Magistrate Miyanda Banda, sitting with Magistrate Pauline Newa, dismissed the claim for reconciliation on grounds that Rodgers was not willing to reconcile.
