A man of Chienge has been arrested for allegedly attempting to exchange his 13-year-old son with a fishing boat and nets.
John Chishimba, 47, allegedly tried to sell his son on grounds that he had suffered enough and wanted to acquire a boat and fishing nets to enable him to venture into a fishing business.
Luapula Province Commissioner of Police Elias Chushi said in an interview yesterday that the boat and fishing nets are valued at K6, 800.
According to police, Chishimba approached Davis Mpundu, 35, of the same village, and offered to exchange his son for a boat and fishing nets.
“Police received a report of trafficking in persons in which Chishimba allegedly wanted to exchange his son, John Junior Chishimba, for a boat and fishing nets,” Mr Chushi said.
Mr Mpundu told police that when Chishimba approached him, he got interested in the matter but later informed the Community Crime Prevention Unit about it.
