WE DEMAND OPEN THE TWO UNIVERSITIES AND REINSTATE ALL EXPELLED STUDENTS NOW!

AS Movement for National Transformation, MNT, we demand that government must immediately intervene in all matters related to opening the two Universities, and MUST REINSTATE ALL EXPELLED STUDENTS, immediately. Relegating this issue to the two Universities’s management, is making matters worse, that are already bad. The adversarial educational policy, is not user friendly and sympathetic to 21st Century politics. Using the Students when you need them, and expelling them when their needs are not met, is a failure of gross negligence of any government in modern politics.

The Partriotic Front, PF, Government is showing Zambians that ignoring the plight of our youths, and students for EXPOS, is more priority than Students and empowerment of the majority youths? This is wrong in all, and must be corrected forthwith! You are killing the future of our youths, stop this kind of politics, it is outdated and must be condemned strongly!

The three times that the Republican President has dated the Copperbelt during; the working visit , the KCM divorce issue, and now the Copperbelt EXPO, without addressing the matter of Copperbelt University, is to say the least very saddening, and greatly shocking! The expectation of the entire nation was that priority would have been given to the reopening of Copperbelt University ,CBU, and the resolution of UNZA challenges. We cannot sacrifice our youths for EXPOS, it’s a failure of responsible government that cares.

The President has not been advised well, and has been misrepresented by the Minister of Higher Education, in this regard. The politicization of the whole matter of UNZA and CBU, is unfortunate. Government cannot use the University to confer an Honorary doctorate on the President to their convenience, yet overlook the needs of the general students, and Lecturers.

The idea that always the Minister of Higher Education, is peddling a policy of being against students makes sad reading, when in fact we should be fighting for students for; meal allowances, fees, paying Lecturers, and incentivising students in a weak economy. This is bad politics, that is sacrificing our youths and student’s future which we need for National Development. You can’t throw the baby with bath water ! Deal with the problems , but spare our students we demand! The graphic images of Vesper shimuzhila, still haunt government, now expulsions, and indefinite closures of universities?

As if adding salt to injury is not enough, the expulsion of the Ten Student Union Officials has hurt many of us Zambians , and PF will pay in 2021, if they do not correct this immediately. The Zambians are seeing their government minimising the lives of Students for politics, which is unfair ! Do the right thing here , notably most of politician’s children go to schools abroad for Better education , please leave our children at our Universities alone! It is all we have !

Therefore, as MNT, we demand the urgent; reconsideration to reopen the Universities, paying Lecturers, granting Unions freedom of expression without any violence , and rescinding the said expulsion of Ten Union leaders, forthwith. Zambians are seeing that the PF led government , has no heart for our student and their education thereof. If they do have a conscience left, we demand Open the Universities and reinstate the expelled students immediately, we demand as MNT!
