New Labour Party(NLP) leader Fresher Siwale says the University of Zambia (UNZA) Great East Campus will set a very bad precedence when it coffers a doctorate degree on President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

President Lungu and Zimbabwean President Emerson Mnangagwa are due to be honoured by the University of Zambia for their contribution in promoting good governance.
But Mr Siwale who was holding nothing back said it will be a very dangerous precedence to honour President Lungu with a doctorate degree because he is presiding over a failed State.
He accused President Lungu of crippling the economy and encouraging political violence during his reign.

“It shows that the caliber of the university is very narrow and the people we have entrusted in running the university, you know…their understanding of issues and substance in this country is very far from them. It is a very dangerous precedence that you can coffer a doctorate of good governance on a person who has initiated pangas, running a failed State, looting of the economy, criminality and banditry. It shows that the level of our university cannot be equated to the primary school and the people there are dangerously ignorant,” he said

When reminded that Mr Lungu is not an initiator of the panga era but just found it along the way, Mr Siwale: “If you are going to be recognised for good governance, then you must stop those pangas instead of acerbating the situation. Look at the lawlessness that has engulfed the nation…Zambia is now a failed State and you go and honour someone with a doctorate degree in crippling your nation, destroying the economy, increasing the levels of poverty and you honour him for good governance? When he has failed in all areas of human development? He has failed the perception index and he is running a Cabinet of weakest ministers since independence? He was even asked about the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) report and his response was fwiti! Fwiti! fwiti nakukanilani. Now, is that a person you can honour really?

Mr Siwale said President Lungu was playing politics when he said he does not want to be called “Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu”.

“He can say those words but he wants titles. You haven’t heard that he is called his Excellence the President of the Republic of Zambia and Commander in Chief. Which President have you ever heard with such a long title? It is because he is ignorant and consumed by power. He needs to acquire knowledge on how to manage a state craft. If I were him, I could not have accepted that honour…what he has done for this country other than crippling it. The university that is honoring him is just as worthless as (President
