CB NDC Youths Demand For Re-Opening Of CBU Or Else…

The opposition Copperbelt NDC youth leadership has given government 7 days to re-open the second largest public University, The Copperbelt University.

In a statement, the provincial youth vice IPS Moses Chisha says the indefinite closure of CBU has negatively affected the nous of living by most Kitwe residents.

“We are giving them 7 days with which to open CBU or else we will demonstrate,” said Chisha.

And Chisha claims the indefinite has also affected the people of Lubwa ward as mostly those who have boarding houses have lost out in the much needed revenue.

“If they fail to open CBU, which message do they have for the people of Lubwa who have been directly affected by the continued closure of CBU,” wrote Chisha.

And Chisha says the people of Lubwa have suffered immensely following the closure of the University.

“Lubwa benefits when CBU is open in terms of boarding houses and small houses which are rented out to students. People have no income close to 3 months now,” lamented Chisha.

Higher Education Minister Professor Nkandu Luo over 3 months ago indefinitely closed The Copperbelt University following days of rioting by students which had resulted in the damaging of property at the institution.

Professor Luo however said the Michael Chilufya Sata School of Medicine, Foreign Students and Graduating students would not be affected by the closure and would continue with their studies.
