Social Media Celebrates Lubinda’s Beating as PF SG Condemns Attack

The news of Justice Minister Given Lubinda’s beating was yesterday met with celebratory comments across social media.

But PF secretary general Davies Mwila called the attack on Lubinda cowardly and shameful.

The PF Kabwata member of parlaiment is said to have been beaten up by ruling party cadres in his constituency yesterday after an altercation.

Yesterday, a combined force of PF cadres from Intercity Bus Terminus and Kabwata Constituency waylayed Lubinda as he toured Kabwata Market and clobbered him for wide ranging accusations including grabbing land from locals and allocating it to foreigners.

Following the attack, Lubinda fondly known as Zayelo among his supporters ran to Kabwata Police Station where he reported a case of assault on him.

Police spokesperson Esther Mwata Katongo confirmed the attack on Lubinda by “unknown people.”

Katongo said investigations had been instituted to find the “anonymous attackers”.

But as the news of Lubinda’s beating spread on different news pages on Facebook, it attracted hundreds of comments but few sympathised with the minister.

“In Malawi soldiers are beating up cadres, in my beautiful country cadres beat up ministers, I love both countries,” one social media user commented on Mwebantu.

Still on Mwebantu another wrote; Excellent work this is one of the best ways to start the weekend CBU size that other minister.”

“Finally I have heard some good news from the PF cadres, if this behaviorcontinues (Bowman, next), I will surely vote for pf come 2021…keep it up🙏
We love you guys(cadres),” another wrote.

Yet another one wrote; “They didn’t beat him hard enough, next time they should put him in the ICU.”

But in a media statements this morning, PF secretary general Davies Mwila branded Lubinda’s beating cowardly and shameful.

Mwila said the PF was grateful that police had already issued a statement confirming that they had launched investigations into the matter.

“However, we call on them to intensify their thorouinvestigations in order for them to bring the dastardly perpetrators to book,” Mwila stated.

He has since directed all PF members from all structures in Lusaka under the Provincial leadership to go on the ground and find the assailants and hand it them over to the Police.

“As our Party President and Head of State His Excellency Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu recently exhorted: “We took over government without using violence. We are a peaceful party. No one…none of our youths must be allowed to commit violence…,”_ Mwila stated.

Mwila also urged all PF members in Kabwata Constituency to continue being steadfast and disciplined while the authorities conducted their investigations.
