Sources have revealed that the Ministry of Education Headquarters in Lusaka has had no power for the past 7 days because the Zambian Treasury has not funded it resulting in the Department failing to buy ZESCO electricity units.
Due to huge outstanding power utility bills owed by Government to ZESCO, the Corporation apparently resolved to place prepaid meters in most government departments as a mitigating measure
The Ministry has subsequently been cut off from the outside world as relevant equipment that links it to other Government departments through internet are not functioning.
The sources further lamented that the Education Ministry even fails to buy toilet paper resulting in staff using newspapers to attend to the call of nature.
“The situation is so bad at the Ministry. It’s very embarrassing especially for our clients and ordinary visitors who visit our toilets only to find there’s no tissue paper. So what are we expected to do? Put a door sign that ‘beware there is no toilet paper’. This is really pathetic for all of us”, lamented one source.
