The Water Resources Management Authority -WARMA- has secured two convictions within two weeks in water related offences in Senanga and Kasama districts.

In the first case, the Senanga Magistrate convicted the Directors of Aquapro Consulting Limited for one count of the offence of conducting the trade and business of drilling boreholes without a license from WARMA.

Announcing the development at a media briefing in Lusaka this morning, WARMA Acting Secretary Emmanuel Mumba said the convicts have been sentenced to a fine of K100,000 in default imprisonment subject to confirmation by the high court.

In the second count, Mr. Mumba said the authority successfully convicted Kampoko Resources Limited in the Kasama District Court for illegal construction of a dam without permit after the company incorporated in Zambia and having its registered office in Kabwe did commence construction of a dam without a lawfully issued permit by WARMA as required under section 110 (1) and (2) of the water resources management act no. 21 of 2011.

Mr. Mumba said the authority is elated by this development and hopes this course will result into deterrence of would be offenders.
