Lusaka Man Commits Suicide After Mother Refuses Him To Drive Car

A 22-YEAR-OLD man of Lusaka’s Chunga Township has committed suicide after his mother refused him to driver his father’s vehicle.

Zambia Police deputy spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga confirmed Mutale Mwelwa’s suicide committed suicide.

Hamoonga said Mwelwa’s mother refused to give him car keys for his father’s vehicle because he did not have a drivers’ licence.

On being told so, Mwelwa drunk doom from his bedroom and thereafter went to visit his friend only identified as John in the same neighborhood.

But on reaching his friend’s home, white foam started coming out of his month.

“According to a report that we received the young man is believed to have committed suicide after he requested for his father’s car keys from his mother but she refused to give him because he did not have a driver’s license.

“He drunk doom from his bedroom and went to his friend’s place only identified as John. When he got there, John’s grandmother noticed some strange signs, that of white foam that was coming out of Mwelwa’s month,” he said.

Hamoonga said John’s grandmother hurriedly called Mwelwa’s mother who quickly came over and found people pouring water on him. She rushed him to Matero Level One Hospital for help.

Mwelwa was there and then put in an ambulance to be taken to the UTH but he died before reaching the hospital.

He said Mwelwa was buried on Thursday and people that gathered at Chingwere cemetery to pay their last respect were shocked in the manner he died.

Meanwhile, one of the mourners who refused to be identified said it was sad that a young life had to end in such a manner when all his mother was trying do was to save him but not knowing that her son had intentions of killing himself if denied the vehicle.
