Police in Mambwe district have arrested five Mozambique nationals for being in possession of over 40 cell phones suspected to have been stolen from people during the Malaila traditional ceremony.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Lackson Sakala confirmed the development to Breeze FM News in Chipata.
Mr Sakala who could not mention the names of the suspects said that the five are from Tete in Mozambique.
He says that the suspects were arrested after a search by the officers from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife at Mphomwa check-point.
Mr Sakala says that the recovered cell phones will be given back to the owners once they are tracked.
He has warned those that that will be travelling to Kulamba traditional ceremony in Katete to be weary of thieves especially that the place will be highly congested.
