CSAWUZ Intensifies Calls On Govt To Halt the Deduction of 1% From Workers’ Basic Pay

The Civil Servants And Allied Workers Union of Zambia –CSAWUZ- has reiterated its demand on government to halt the deduction of 1 percent from worker’s basic pay as contribution towards the newly introduced national health insurance scheme until public service workers are given a meaningful salary increment.

Union president, David Chiyobe regrets that in the midst of the high cost of living, the implementation of the national health insurance scheme will be more costly.

In an interview, Mr Chiyobe has wondered why government has rushed into actualizing the scheme before exhausting consultations with all relevant stakeholders, who have raised concerns on the negative impact of the mandatory deduction of 1 percent from each employees basic pay.

Over the weekend, the Zambia federation of employers advised government to immediately revoke statutory instrument number 63 of 2019 which operationalized the health insurance scheme bill effective October 10th.
