Ministry of Health Senior Health Promotional Officer, Ernest Kakoma has cautioned HIV patients to stop substituting Anti-retrial viral drugs –ARVS- with alternative medicines that have not been scientifically proven.
Mr. Kakoma says the Ministry is concerned with reports of HIV patients using herbal medicines to suppress the viral load, advising those doing such to follow instructions given by health providers.
In an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Kakoma has further cautioned that alternative medicines are not only harmful but do not work effectively as ARVS do.
And Treatment Advocacy and Literacy Campaign –TALC- Executive Director, Felix Mwanza who has also acknowledged receiving such reports stressed that currently, there is no cure for HIV and that only ARVS have an impact on disease.
