Topstar Workers Complain Of Unqualified Chinese Holding Top Positions

Workers at Topstar are calling on the Ministry of Labour to intervene and put a stop to some illegal dealings at the company where some Chinese are holding on to top positions that they do not qualify for.

The workers in a statement issued to Phoenix News have complained that what is happening at the company is unacceptable especially that there are qualified Zambians who can take up the positions.

The workers however said this is not the case and that the few Zambians holding high positions are only ceremonial and are not regarded as they have no say in the operations of the company because most top leadership positions are held by unqualified Chinese.

Further, the workers say departments such as Marketing, Sales and the one heading administration are all Chinese, when these positions should be held by Zambians as per Zambian laws.

The workers have questioned why these positions are not held by qualified Zambians and has called on the Zambia Institute of Marketing to intervene and investigate the issue of a Chinese being in-charge of marketing.

According to the Zambian Labour laws,” any foreigner who comes into Zambia must do a job that no Zambian is capable of doing”.

Efforts to get Ministry of Labour Permanent Secretary, Chanda Kaziya failed by broadcast time as his mobile phone was off.
