Lake Kariba Water Levels Reach 7%

With scorching temperatures hitting a high of 42 degrees Celsius in some cases in some parts of the country, including southern Zambia, water levels on Lake Kariba have receded further by 8 centimeters.

According to a report by the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA), the lake level continued receding, dropping by 8 centimeters during the week under review, before closing at 477.99 meters, translating into 17 percent usable storage on 30th September 2019.

According to the report, the Kariba Lake is designed to operate between levels 475.50 meters and 488.50 meters with 0.70 meters freeboard, for hydropower generation.

Last year on the same date, the lake level was 485.35 meters or 74 percent full.
