TIZ: Cabinet Ministers Who Refuse to Pay Back Money Accrued illegally Must Be Cited for Contempt

Transparency International Zambia-TIZ- says all the former and serving ministers who have refused to pay back the money they accrued for illegally staying in office prior to the 2016 general elections must be cited for contempt of court.

TIZ Executive Director Wesley Chibamba is concerned about the levels of impunity being displayed by politicians especially that the constitution court ruled that all cabinet ministers that stayed illegally in office after parliament was dissolved in 2016 must pay back the money.

Mr Chibamba is particularly concerned that some ministers have disregarded the court order to the extent of proudly saying that they will not pay back the money hence the need to arrest and cite them for contempt.
