Kitwe DC Binwell Mpundu Returns K5,000 Chinese Donation

KITWE District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu has refunded the K5, 000 given by the Zambia Chinese Association (ZCA) as a contribution towards the fund raising dinner for village banking.

The Chinese demanded refund alleging that Mr Mpundu did not declare the money during the event on November 1, 2019.

ZCA Copperbelt Chapter president Wang Xin confirmed that Mr Mpundu had refunded the money in form of a cheque on Wednesday which he deposited at Barclays Bank city centre branch in Kitwe.

“Yes, I have collected the cheque and deposited at Barclays Bank.

I will collect the money after three days. After we collect the money, we will give it to other vulnerable people,” Mr Wang said.

Mr Mpundu was prompted to refund the money after the ZCA reminded him to either declare or refund the K5, 000 which the association contributed towards village banking.

The association, in a letter to the DC, had threatened to take up the matter with the Secretary to the Cabinet.

Mr Wang insisted ZCA demanded the refund because Mr Mpundu did not declare that the association had contributed some money during the actual event

But things came to a boil when the same letter was posted on social media, a situation which angered Mr Mpundu and ignited an exchange of words with some people perceived to have posted the letter on social media.
