Zambia Records Over 90 Cases Of Suicide In 2019

91 cases of suicide have so far been recorded this year countrywide, indicating an increase in cases compared to the year 2018.

Zambia Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has told phoenix news in an interview that there has been an increase in the number of reported suicide cases from 85 last year to 91 this year so far.

according to police statistics, a total of 24 cases involving 20 males and 4 females were recorded in the first quarter of 2019, while a total of 32 cases involving 29 males and 3 females were recorded in the second quarter and 35 cases have been recorded in the third quarter of 2019 involving 31 males and 4 females, bringing the total number to 91.

Ms. Katongo said Luapula province has so far recorded the highest number of reported suicide cases.
