Today 2nd of January 2020 I woke up only to find a video circulating on social media, the video was of two powerful youths on the copperbelt specifically Chingola. In the video there was Spax Mining Proprietor and Daglous Chilembi a PF die hard supporter. They were touring a copper mountain in chingola though we called those mountains as “Pits.” The first thing that came to mind was “Youth Empowerment” in Zambia. Some time last year in Kitwe the youths were given to mine 20% of the infamous “Black Mountain”.
Now I hear these two youths with their followers in Chingola were equally given that copper mountain as Youth Empowerment. So my few and simple questions for the government are as follows; (1) Has this government ever thought of the youths at a broader picture? (2.) Do you have any deliberate policy for Youth Empowerment country wide or (3.) It’s just the empowerment that is selective and happening only for political expediency. I ask so because those Youths in Chingola and Kitwe respectively are not the only youths we have in Zambia but they seem to be the only ones who are benefiting from our natural resources. As a party in power have you ever thought of the youths in Luapula Province where there is no mountain of copper to give them? Have you thought of the youths in Muchinga Province.?
Worse more if I include Southern Province that is considered opposition bedroom!!! What are your plans over these youths in other province’s?? If benefiting as a Youth means we all have to become Jerabos or relocate to copperbelt where Youth Empowerment is real then let us know. Otherwise if there is no policy to Empower the youths country wide, then my proposal will be; let Luapula River be degazetted and be given totally to Luapula Province Youths.
Us in Lusaka will not ask you much just give us FINDECO HOUSE that is if it belongs to government we will share the rooms there. Muchinga escarpment should be given to the youths in that province. Lastly and not the least let the dry Victoria Falls be given to the youths in Southern Province whatever they will do with it is up to them kabili it’s empowerment after all.
