Minister Katambo Disputes Farm Inputs Delivery

Minister of Agriculture, Michael Katambo has clarified that Kawambwa district in Luapula Province has received its full allocation of maize seed and D-compound fertilizer for the 2019/2020.

ZANIS reports that Mr Katambo is reacting to complaints by St Mary’s Parish, Priest in Charge, James Chisanga on behalf of small scale farmers, over the delayed supply of farming inputs in the district.

This was during a church service which was attended by President Edgar Lungu yesterday.
Mr Katambo disclosed that all the maize seed and compound D fertilizer meant for the district have all been delivered.

He further revealed that Kawambwa was allocated 2,840 metric tonnes of D compound and 125 metric tonnes of maize seed which have since been supplied to the district.
The Minister also highlighted that 90 percent of urea fertilizer has also been distributed to the district.

Mr Katambo added that out of 61,863 beneficiaries only 61,400 managed to pay the required K400.

And Kawambwa Central Member of Parliament (MP) Nickson Chilangwa said the maize fields are a testimony to prove that the farming inputs were delivered on time.

Mr Chilangwa who is also Luapula Minister pointed out that the supplier engaged by government targeted beneficiaries who paid the required K400.

He however, said there is need to increase the number of beneficiaries so as to enhance agricultural activities in the district. -ZANIS
