A 55- YEAR-OLD woman of Kalumbila district in North-Western province is nursing serious head injuries after a Chikondo “moving coffin” act named her killer and was consequently assaulted by the coffin.

The victim has been admitted to Lumwana First Level Hospital after sustaining a painful neck and general body pains.

Kalumbila district commissioner Robinson Kalota confirmed that the victim was allegedly accused of being behind the death of Deke Chiwala, 27 of Kwalwile Village who died after a long illness.

Mr Kalota condemned the old cultural belief in an interview saying it was sad that such a life threatening practice was still practiced in this time and age.

“This cultural belief and practice should change, I personally condemn this act and I am reaching out to our traditional leaders to sensitive their communities to stop such acts,

“Let us always follow the normal procedures as guided by the laws of the land and also the Church should stand in and pray for this,” he said.

Mr Kalota said he received a report that in Mukumbi Chiefdom of a coffin which was being carried by pall bearers between 14:00 hours and 17:00 hours yesterday that almost killed a woman.

He said the coffin together with the dead body had been retrieved and taken to the hospital mortuary.

“Kapya Kabunda, Jackson Mwaanmoyi, Ngoyi Musonda, James Musonda, Fwaimani Musoyo and Pephias Musoyo are the know coffin bearers but no arrest has so far been made”, he said
