A THIRTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD man of Ganerton Township has alleged how his wife made their 19-year-old son mad after he ate the food that he was supposed to eat. Felix Nyirenda told Ganerton Local Court that his wife blended charms in his food but their son accidentally ate it and went mad. Nyirenda was testifying in a case in which he sued his wife, Misozi Rupiah, for divorce on grounds that she is a drunkard who attempted to make him mad. Nyirenda told the court that problems in their marriage started in 2009 after his wife started hanging around with friends who abuse alcohol. He said his wife once blended charms in the food she prepared for him but when he delayed to eat it, his son who ate the food ended up going mad.
“My son went mad just after eating the food that my wife prepared for me and this made me scared because it was proof that she wanted to make me mad,” Nyirenda said. He told the court that he was not willing to marry a woman that wants to make him mad and he asked the court to grant them divorce.
Nyirenda further alleged that he at one time gave his wife K1, 200 to pay for their house rentals but that she only paid half ofthe amount. Nyirenda said when he discovered this he confronted his wife who lied to him that she gave half of the money to her brother but when he inquired from his in law he discovered that his wife lied to him. He said when he confronted her about where she took the money she told him that she gave the money to her friend.
Nyirenda also complained that his wife became violent and left the matrimonial house. But Rupiah dismissed the claims and accused her husband of being a promiscuous man who does not support his family. She also complained to the court that they have been apart for a year and that her husband has married another woman. Ganerton Senior Presiding Magistrate Nsama Banda granted the couple divorce and ordered Nyirenda to compensate his wife with K10, 000 by K300 monthly instalments. She also ordered Nyirenda to provide his child with basic needs
