Facebook Post Results In Divorce

A 25-year-old woman of Chawama who posted photos o f h e r a n d her husband in the nude on Facebook received a battering from her husband who was not happy with her adventure. Sylvester Sikale, 26, told the Chawama local court that he battered Aliness Zulu, his wife of three years, because she posted photos showing them in the nude.

He was testifying in a case in which he was sued for divorce, the couple got married in 2017. They have one child together. “I beat my wife because she posted pictures showing us naked on a social network platform and saw nothing wrong with her actions. She said there was nothing to hide when I asked why she did that,” Sikale said.

He said his wife does not admit her mistakes and this usually makes him upset. Sikale told the court that he has never enjoyed his marriage from the time the pair got married. “She is jealous such that she insults every woman I talk to, last time she insulted my client, I lost my temper and beat her again. I do not talk to or look at every woman whenever we are the two of us,” he said.

Sikale said Zulu’s family supports her and blames him every time the couple has a misunderstanding. He also told the court that he has on several occasions found love messages on his wife’s phone from different men. But Zulu, in her testimony, told the court that Sikale is promiscuous and that he talks to his girlfriends in her presence.

“Last time one of his girl friends told me that he married me by mistake. Our families have counselled him on many occasions but he has not changed,” she said. Zulu told the court that she does not want to stay with Sikale because she cannot endure the beatings. In passing judgement, Magistrate Ruth Masanga sitting with Nancy Ngoma and Lewis Mumba granted the couple divorce on grounds that there is unfaithfulness in their marriage.

The court ordered Sikale to maintain his child with K 450 monthly effective February 28.
